Wakeham Farm, Sussex, England

Introduction

Wakeham Farm is set at the foot of the South Downs between Midhurst and Petersfield. It is close to Chichester Festival Theatre, Cowdray Park polo, Goodwood, Petworth Park, and HMS Victory.

Mervin’s cottage and Billy’s Cottage are always available for short term holiday letting (and once in a blue moon we will still let out the farmhouse, which has five bedrooms is set up for a family).   The price includes basic supplies like milk and olive oil, fruit & flowers on the table, all linen and towels, and a bottle of champagne in the ‘fridge.  Please follow the links at the top of this page to find out more about the houses.

The houses are set in the middle of our 190-acre organic farm.  We have a very long stretch of river bank, and visitors are welcome to fish in season (there are a few trout in the river), and indeed to camp on the farm for a day or two.

There is wetland running along the river, a plethora of bird life, an excess of deer, and a plague of rabbits. Inland there are several woods, and the land is made up of small hills and valleys - so the farm feels a lot larger than it is, with many secluded places. There are no public footpaths or bridleways at all, so it is very private and secluded.  It will take a long time to explore it all.

This is a great place for potential Swallows and Amazons to play (under adult supervision). But be careful of the marsh - which is deep in places - and of the possibility of tree branches breaking.  Children do need to be carefully supervised.

There is also a link at the top of this page to glorious houses in Greece, and a perfectly placed flat in the middle of Zermatt in case you want to escape the English weather.

The core of Wakeham Farm is Wakeham House, which was rebuilt after a fire and is now a demonstration project incorporating principles of passive solar energy.  There are links to it on the menu bar above, if you are interested. We want people to learn from and make use of the principles used in its solar energy design.
