MERVIN’S - sleeps 4

The kitchen  is furnished with antique oak and pine cupboards, shelves and tables (not a fitted unit in sight!) and an old fashioned sink with brass taps. There is however an almost modern 'fridge and cooker! Enough (nice) crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment is provided for 8 people. There is a cafetière. Both cottages have washing machines and tumble driers. Mervin's also has a very small dishwasher. But its Rayburn does NOT work yet.

The south-facing sitting room in Mervin's has a carpeted floor (with some irritating burn marks on the carpet near the fire), two large and nicely upholstered sofas ,  a card table & some occasional tables, and some smaller chairs. On one side of the (working) fireplace, under a pretty wall lamp, is a chest; on the other, under its companion, is a bookcase full of holiday reading. Full length curtains run the entire width of the south wall.

The sitting room opens directly onto the garden (which is shared by both cottages), and has magnificent views to the Downs. The garden is large, bounded by old hedges (which have recently been properly laid), and is mainly laid down to grass - so it is a good place for children to play. If you want to escape, there is the rest of the farm!

The bathroom (which is downstairs, and opens off the kitchen via a useful lobby for hanging coats and putting muddy boots in), contains basin, bath and W.C. It has a fan heater, but can be chilly in winter.

The stairs run up the middle of the houses (between the kitchen and sitting room) and are quite steep ; so very small children have to be watched carefully.

The south bedroom in Mervin's has a double bed, bedside tables,  a wardrobe, and bedroom chairs, and a large wardrobe. It has a dormer window, looking south at the Downs (you will probably see deer most mornings). In a cupboard, there is a basin & mirror and razor socket. There is a decorative fire place.

The north bedroom in Mervin's has twin beds, chests of drawers and a wardrobe. Again, there is a basin & mirror and razor socket in a cupboard, and a decorative fireplace. Just at the moment there is a brown stain on the ceiling - we are going to do some major work on the roof quite soon, but some water has trickled down the chimney. But it is very habitable and comfortable none the less.

There is a fast wireless broadband connection which serves both cottages. The telephone line which comes with it  has unlimited free UK land line calls . If you want to call overseas, or call mobile phones, there is good mobile phone reception on Vodafone.
